Cold-process Soap Gemstones

I made this soap in February and have been told that it looks like a gemstone, something like malachite.

Since then I knew I had to make cold-process soap that would resemble gemstones. At first I picked onyx and here is my cold-process soap called Onyx:

After that I prepared a soap called Fordite and planned to submit it as my entry for the Soap Challenge, because I was using the spinning swirl technique to create it. But I changed my mind and decided to go with another entry. I haven't taken pictures of the fordite soap yet.

  1. Hi Jelena!

Amazing soaps! Can you tell me how you achieved the colors for Malachite?

    Again, just beautiful!

    1. Sure! I used 3 blends to achieve different shades of green:
      1) Chromium green oxide (mineral pigment),
      2) Chromium green oxide + TKB's neon green,
      3) NS's Spring green mica + TKB's neon green + a touch of green oxide.
For the black, I used activated charcoal.

Thank you for the nice words, Mark!

  2. Thank you, Jelena!

Do I see a few little swirls of white in there as well?

I get lost in your blog and lose all track of time!

    1. It's more than just a few little swirls of white. :) The white part was approximately 60% of the total soap batter weight. It's hard to believe, right? :)

  3. Wow! I thought a little white may be in there, but not 60%!

Did you use squeeze bottles to pour alternating lines of colors?

    Thanks!

    1. No Mark, I didn't use squeeze bottles to pour the soap.
